The Home Builders Association's charitable arm - the Home Builders Foundation - builds and renovates shelters for those experiencing homelessness in the Portland metro area by leveraging the philanthropy of the home building industry, and provides construction related educational opportunities for those interested in pursuing a career in the home building industry. Government Affairs and the Home Builders Foundation work closely on challenges withing the residential building industry.
Shelter Development
Through its affiliation with HomeAid America, the Home Builders Foundation’s shelter development program builds and renovates shelters for those experiencing homelessness. Home Builders Foundation has built or renovated over 80,000 square feet of shelter space, valued at $5.6 million, that serves over 550 homeless individuals, families, youth, and domestic violence survivors each year. An extraordinary $2.5 million of the total value of these projects has been donated by members of the Home Builders Association of Metro Portland and others in the home building industry. Home Builders Foundation is committed to providing educational opportunities and training for tomorrow’s workforce in the construction industry. Each year the HBF awards tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships for high school students entering college and post-secondary students who are interested in pursuing a career in the home building industry.
