HBA Successful in Pushing for Council Attention on Tigard’s River Terrace 2.0
City of Tigard staff unveiled Development Code concepts for the 500-acre River Terrace 2.0 expansion area on October 14 that left home builders with more questions than answers on how to meet the area’s lofty density goals of 18 units per acre. The HBA submitted a letter detailing the concerns and making a simple request for Council to engage more deeply in the staff-led discussions on the River Terrace 2.0 code.
“We are not seeking to delay this project further. Throughout this process, our industry has requested forums to discuss key facets of the RT 2.0 plan and for insight into how developer feedback is incorporated into the final product. We continue to participate in forums where new code, points systems, density calculations and other information is shared, but feedback from the industry is not reflected in the products shared with Council.”
At its meeting on October 27, the Tigard City Council agreed to host and lead a roundtable discussion on the issues we raised and, hopefully, take on builder feedback rather than leave it as a footnote to the staff proposal. You can view the full letter here, along with a list of questions from the HBA and our members submitted ahead of the October 14 meeting.
Expect details on the roundtable with Tigard councilors and staff in a future message. If you’re a local builder who hasn’t engaged on River Terrace 2.0 to this point but would like to provide feedback, please let Ben Hemson, Director of Government Affairs, know at benh@hbapdx.org.
