Almost all residential contractors are required to take a certain amount of continuing education each year, per the requirements established by the Oregon Construction Contractors Board. Below are answers to some commonly asked questions. However, contractors are always welcome to call our office and one of our continuing education specialists can help you navigate the requirements and let you know of the variety of options we have to help you get the education you need to keep your license current.
obtaining or renewing your CCB license
How many credits are required to renew my license?
Unless exempt, all residential contractors need the following continuing education every two year license period need 3 hours of CCB laws, regulations and business practices classes and 5 hours of other approved courses that relate to business practices or your trade.
Licensed by the CCB for less than six years?
You need 8 additional hours of approved courses.

OHBA Codes Update Class
Conducted by the Oregon Home Builders Association (OHBA), these CCB approved live two hour classes will focus on the significant changes to the Oregon Residential Structures Code (ORSC) and changes to the Residential Energy Code. One hour will focus on the ORSC changes and one will focus on the energy code changes. The courses will prepare builders, designers and suppliers for the changes that will affect them and which will be mandatory in 2018. The HBA will be holding multiple classes throughout the year to meet your education needs. Lead Base Paint
In April of 2010, the EPA’s Lead-Based Renovation, Repair and Painting rule went into effect. This rule applies to all contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities and schools built before 1978. This class provides the education in work practices to prevent lead contamination that each contractor must receive in order to be granted certification to work in these environments. Lead Based Paint classes and certifications, are provided through our affiliated state association, the Oregon Home Builders Association. Click here to learn more and sign up.
