Let's Build it: Incentives for Middle Housing Construction

HBA, Metro and the Build Small Coalition partnered together for yet another successful middle housing focused webinar this year, where attendees had the opportunity to learn about various incentives and tools available for building and encouraging middle housing development at a variety of price points. Following opening remarks by Tigard Mayor Jason Snider, industry and policy experts covered Senate Bill 458 (Expedited Land Division), Condominium Mapping Options, Construction Financial Products, and System Development Charge Deferral and Tax Abatement Incentives, followed by a robust Q+A panel moderated by Wilsonville Planning Director Miranda Bateschell.

Our Future Workforce: New Opportunities within Area High School Programs

This Connect + Build webinar presented by NW Natural provides a brief overview of HBA’s work to identify and support key construction CTE programs in our region at the secondary and post-secondary education levels. Dave Ketah (Benson Polytechnic High School), John Stearns (Amity High School), and Jon Dickover (Sherwood High School), directors of their respective high school CTE programs shared the current status and growth opportunities for their schools and students, as well as information on ways you can connect with their programs.

Virtual All Member Meeting featuring a regional mayoral update

HBA hosted the Mayors of Gresham, Hillsboro, Newberg and Wilsonville at its annual spring all-member meeting presented by HomeStreet Bank. The mayors shared insights into their jurisdictions’ work on housing and industry-related issues, including housing production in their communities.

Modern Middle Housing Virtual Tour

HBA, Metro and the Build Small Coalition presented the Modern Middle Housing Virtual Tour to explore the state of middle housing and six exiting projects in the Portland area that are shifting the way we think about housing. Blue Sky Property Northwest, Green Hammer, Marnella Homes, Portland Houseworks, Roost Homes, and SQFT Studios highlighted key features of their projects and the opportunities and challenges associated with developing middle housing.
